1.Housing of Kempff Piano

As it plays a role in supporting the whole piano, the housing of a piano requires very high strength and its manufacturing process is extremely complex. The housing of Kempff Piano is featured by uniform joints and excellent flatness. As for the painting process, Kempff Piano is provided with delicate, crystal and clear varnish with a hardness of above 2H and excellent anti-wear performance. The multi-layer splicing method is adopted in the horizontal piano body of Kempff Piano. Texture-based cutting of the timbers is carried out by using mechanical principles so as to increase the strength of the piano housing to the maximum extent. After the moisture content of the timbers reaches the standard, the craftsman will evenly glue the multi-layer timbers and put them into the splicer for splicing layer by layer, with the glue bonding density strictly controlled. Upon preliminary bonding of the piano body, it will be put into a thermostatic chamber for natural drying for six weeks, after which, the piano body’s resistance to deformation will be greatly improved.

In order to enhance the piano’s artistic taste, hand carving is adopted on the housing of Kempff Piano, where various embossed patterns are displayed in a stereoscopic way. These embossed patterns have undergone repeated carving and grinding by craftsmen, their elaborate craftsmanship and symmetrical lines making Kempff Piano an excellent work of art.

2.Soundboard of Kempff Piano

The solid wood panels of spruce or Picea jezoensis are used for manufacturing the soundboard of Kempff Piano. The multi-layer panel splicing process is adopted in the soundboard of Kempff Piano. When the selected panels are subject to splicing, reasonable angles between panel textures are ensured to be favorable to sound vibration and enable the sound to be effectively conducted through the textures of timbers in the soundboard. The soundboard of Kempff Piano is subject to special drying treatment. The soundboard panels of even thickness increase sound effects of the piano. In a slightly convex shape, the soundboard maximizes the sound produced by strings. The soundboard is provided with ribs on its back, which effectively promote the soundboards endurance of high pressure from the strings and enrich the vibration waves at the soundboard.

3.Keys of Kempff Piano

The keys of Kempff Piano have undergone weighing treatment to strictly control the falling and rising strengths of the keys. In addition, the simulated beater is placed for beating for millions of times, so as to ensure the best actual playing performance of the keyboard after it has been subject to the beating test under different strengths and speeds. The keys of Kempff Piano have undergone advanced drying and moistureproof treatments. The white keys are made by using the solid wood manufacturing technology, and the black keys have a superior sense of touch. The key skins are made of celluloid or ivory version (ivory imitation) materials with a surface hardness of above 2H and increased durability.

4.Strings of Kempff Piano

Whether the layout of the strings is reasonable will directly influence the playing effect. The strings of Kempff Piano are designed in accordance with its own standards. The three-string, two-string and one-string structures are reasonably distributed. The strings at each register are alternately arranged. The length of each string is strictly designed, and the vibration of each string is analyzed according to acoustical principles. The scientific layout enables the pitch of Kempff Piano to be stable, the tone to be pure and the sound to be more expressive. Due to strong ductility, the strings of Kempff Piano will not deform after long-time beating.

5.Action of Kempff Piano

With small parts and precise structure, the action is difficult to make. The action of Kempff Piano is made by combining the metal framework and solid wood parts, featured by flexible movement and quick response. Adopting German FFW hammers, Kempff Piano maintains good parallelism during the installation of hammers in all registers, so as to ensure that each hammer has a precise beating point. Among them, the link lever mechanism, with fine parts and complex running principles, is made after repetitive grinding and high-precision punching, so as to achieve the effect of perfect fit among all parts. The action of Kempff Piano has undergone repetitive tests, forming rich and harmonious sound through repetitive beating at the lower register, middle register and upper register under the equally applied force.

6. Iron stand of Kempff Piano

A high quality iron stand can easily cope with very high tension of strings and greatly improve the stability of piano sound. The iron stand of Kempff Piano is manufactured by adopting the iron casting process after going through many procedures such as smelting, repeated heating, baking, grinding and baking finish. During the smelting process, some additional substances are added to improve the strength of the iron stand. The initially cast iron stand contains some gases inside it. After high-temperature baking, the gases contained in the iron stand of Kempff Piano will be effectively removed, so that the metal density inside the iron stand becomes higher while its balanced force bearing capacity is enhanced.

After the iron stand is completed, the drilling of peg holes becomes a key factor. The slightest error in the peg hole diameter will influence the playing effects of the piano. Too large hole diameter will cause a bad fixing effect of the peg, which may easily loosen after long-time playing of the piano. Too small hole diameter will not be beneficial to the turning of the peg, which may influence future tuning effects. Drilled by CNC equipment, the peg holes of Kempff Piano will bring good fixing effects of the peg with very low error in hole diameter.

7. Solid wood linkage system of Kempff Piano

Compared with that of metal materials, the pure solid wood linkage system adopted in Kempff Piano can effectively avoid producing noise due to friction of linkage parts during playing and achieve a better harmony of piano sound.
